It will soon be Lacock at War, is anyone on the forum going.

I haven't been before but looking at the online photos from previous years, it looks like a good show, even though from the photos there don't appear to be many 1940 civilian re-enactors.

I live in Swindon and didn't know about this!

Can't see from the website if they allow people in uniform to just turn up and walk round, or if you need to be invited or part of a group?

From the website:- TRADERS AND LIVING HISTORY PLACES ARE NOW FULL.

I'm just going as a promenader so I haven't booked or been invited. I've never had a problem at any events just turning up on the day. If you are concerned, contact the West Wilts MVT.

Hi guys,

it's fine to turn up in uniform and enter the show but just so that you know for future years there is a prize for best vehicle, best group and best walk around impression but you have to book in to be in with a chance of winning. I will be in the village next to the abbey as usual with the sentry post and roadblock :)

To be in the running for the best walk around impression, do you have to book in on the day or in advance? If in advance, how to book in as I can't see any link or form on the West Wilts MVT site.

I will come and say hello or should that be guten tag!

You would book in as Living History but on the application form add that you are doing walk around rather than a static display, too late for this year as the link has been disabled due to lack of space but bear it in mind for next year :)

Oh dear - I doubt if the ever efficient Germans would let a Polish soldier walk through their checkpoint...

Still, I will see if I can get along for one day at least and see if they will let me in!

A great show, thanks to all the re-enactors and vehicles (and the owners) that were there. Looking forward to Lacock 2019 already.

Yes.

I wonder why the woman thought that the original yellow Star of David arm patch was for sale and not that it was on display.

I hope that it is not the end of the show.

I saw the headlines in the paper itself but couldn't find the online article ... interesting .. I wonder how far this German thing is going to go ... from the looks of the majority of the pictures those in them seem to be bone fide re-enactors and at the end of the day, like it or not it is history and part of the overall theme of things ... what's next I wonder.. German, Nazi Luftwaffe et all symbols pixelated out in films and pictures so as not to 'cause offence' ??

Oh dear - I take that this means that I won't be able to wear my hat and collar badges soon... (pre-war Polish army mountain troops uniform with parade badges.)
