If you are saying that your feed block is dated 1944 you were luckly to get a war-time dated one as most of Rytons were post-war.

As promised see below,an unfortunately not very good picture showing remaining war-time paint on one of my Maxims.
Shade variation as already has been discussed would have been very wide.

Thanks for the piccy REME 245, now I know the correctish colour.

Can anyone tell me what cases the Russians used in WW2 for their Nagants etc. Were they the copper washer steel that we have nowdays, or brass?

My understanding is that wartime cartridge cases were copper washed or sometimes left bare steel.

I have my Maxim belt back in NZ now and when i tried it i found the it fits my Maxin OK so therefore it has the dual usage type of feedblock.
Now to get it running on blank..................................................

A couple more pictures here of what I believe to be an original shade of Russian WW2 paint courtesy of the Warminster Small Arms Collection. There is only one layer of paint on the jacket and it is the same colour inside.

The exact shade is not shown very well in these pictures but a fellow colector who had had it matched is going to confirm the details.
