Can anyone suggest a decent supplier of appropriate RM beret?

Are the SOF ones any good? I've got an SOF cherry beret and pleased with that, do the RM ones come up to scratch?
Failing that where else can I get one.

I'm also after a Sykes fairburn. Repro is fine seeing as the price of originals have gone stupid.

Cheers.

I would tend to agree with you Simon, the SOF maroon beret is a very good copy of the wartime beret. However batches of their other colours, black and green etc. differ from batch to batch. WPG also offers a very good reproduction if you are willing to ship from the US.

I bought a WPG commando beret a little while back and the lining was polyester, not cotton. I talked to Mr. Lee about it and he took it right back (as it was listed as cotton lined). I then bought one from SOF and it was cotton lined as I wanted.

Sincerely,

Karl

I presume you mean the WW2 pattern commando green beret that the Army and RM commando had. If you can look out for (on ebay?) one of the King & country ones SOF used to sell. Like the Maroon ones mentioned in this thread so far, they where a good reproduction of the beret with a decent cloth lining and good quality outer...mine even has a leather band and has lasted for many events smart and combat -come rain and shine! Unfortunately I don't think SoF do them any more -cant comment on their current stock or the WPG ones.

What size are you? Would this be for display or to wear?

Slight thread hi-jack...I'm looking for a black beret either original or repro in size 7 1/4 -71/2. SOF have had nothing but small crowns in there batch of black ones recently.

7 1/8 Rob. To wear. Another new impression I never intended doing until a Bergan fell in my lap!

Hi Simon,
Any luck as yet with a beret ?

I can vouch for WPG , this is my RM beret, I've had this one about 2yrs though and is spot on, but cant comment on current batches ?
I cut the interior out to help give it more "flop" so to speak !

Cheers
Steve

I may be able to source another in the near future if you are still in need

Hello Steve. Still on the look out for a beret.

Not in any rush as it's one of those "as and when" impressions.

Cheers.

Ah shame. I've an original unissued '45 dated Kangol, but it'd be too small for you. Too small for me too! Just been keeping it in my collection.
