Hello all!
For all those who are after a copy of the HG bible, I have ordered a copy of Jon Mills book " the insignia and uniforms of the LDV and Home Guard 1940-44" from MLRS books ltd. Cost was £30.00 plus postage.

Just got off the phone to the chap there who was very helpfull,so I should be getting it in the next few days. They actually print off copies as and when you need them.

Contact 01298 71894 or see their website.

cheers

Baz

Can we make this thread a 'sticky' for future reference?

Er, advance warning chaps - just be careful when using the photos as reference: in the reprint versions I have seen, the colours are way out and the reproduction quality is v. poor. Occasionally the original ring-bound versions come up on ebay - one went a couple of weeks ago for about £28. Apparently an updated version of the original with new/more photos/info will be produced in the future.

Agree. great bit of advice. the ring bound one certainly differs in quality to the "reprint"
Good call

Oh well - I'll see what the reprint is like when it arrives.

At least this way I get a copy since my attempt to get one direct has had no response from the author :(

Be interesting to compare it with the illustrated guide that has come out recently.

Tony

I bought a 'bound' copy that was sealed in cellophane and was very disappointed when I opened it.

As said, the printing, photographs, and colour reproduction are truly awful. It's as if the printer was running out of ink.

For a fairly expensive book it's really not good enough.

Just recieved my copy in the post, and as some guys have already stated the printing of the photos and insignia is very poor. The information is second to none, but very dissapointed in the quailty for what is an expensive reprint.

Live and learn!

Who is selling it, is it the authors publisher or the authors themselves? I thought it looked like some one had scanned it and cranked some off on a colour printer or a colour copier.

Regards
Matt

I thought it looked like someone had printed it using carved potatoes and poster paint.

A first edition spiral bound copy on Abe books for £75 if anyone is interested. Too steep for my interest though.

Jon Mills has been talking about doing a new edition of this book on the British Military Badge Forum. He is asking for some of the letter / number combinations he was missing when the book was originally published, so hopefully within the next 12 months it should be back on the market.
