In a nutshell the box magazine for the PPSh-41 has a distinctive square top so that it fits in the wide magazine-well of the PPSh.

Oh well could always use it if i ever start re enacting Korea then...

But to be honest the PPSh looks kinda naked without its' drum

Thats true Bas..and it is to be used as a captured weapon in my SS "Nordland" impression anyway.

So it will be more "typical" as you say with the drum.

The sling which came with my PPS-43 from Ryton Arms was war-time dated.

I have not looked at their PPS-41 slings if indeed there is a difference.

I have both a functioning PPSh-41 and a PPS-43 and I can assure you that the magazines are not interchangeable.

Seems rather silly for them to make pretty much the same thing - but not interchangeable ?

Anyone want to answer the first question then - about the 41 marked slab mags ?

I don't think Lloyd actually said that his magazines were marked "41". He asked if "41" (as in PPSh-41) slab sided magazines are post war:

Bas please can you check that PPsH on the for sale thread...my slab mags are EXACTLY like that...come to think of it...my PPsH41 is in exactly the same condition.

Must be a batch come in from China......these are almost unfired weapons

I'd love to be able to offer an expert opinion Lloyd, but my interest in PPSh's more or less starts and finishes with Russian WWII ones. So I only know that the accepted wisdom is that during WWII only ribbed magazines were used.

One possible reason could be to avoid confusion between them and the magazines for the PPS-43.

Without seeing the markings it would be difficult to know what country that gun came from and who made the magazines. Even then it is possible that the guns are Russian manufactured and the magazines locally manufactured to replace any that were lost?

Sorry Bas....the gun IS legit 1945 dated Russian....Star in Shield marking on Barrel guard.....and 3M 6155 serial number stamps all over it.

Its the magazines i am curious about..those pattern magazines are exactly like the one i have?

Lloyd I appreciate your gun is a legit WWII Soviet manufactured one; I was referring to the one the trader. Sorry, I should have been more specific.

My point was more that your gun could have been sent off to any one of the Soviet supported countries that used and manufactured PPSh's where the original magazines were replaced with locally manufactured ones. And in absence of any markings I'd be hard pressed to identify the country of origin.

As an example my 1944 dated 91/30 sniper came to me with a Polish PU scope on it. The rifle is all matching, but has obviously seen a couple of re-furbishments in it's life.

So, can anyone tell from the rather lousy photo on the e-bay item what this stick mag is for? He has it advertised as a mag for a PPsh41 OR PPs43...
