Hi all

I was wondering what sort of medics bags were used. I have seen examples of the small versions that attach to the belt.

if anyone has info that would be great and sizes too as it will be interesting to see the variety

This one comrade - do not be seen with a postwar Czech one or a field troika will be convened (with the paperwork filled out already!)

Are you sitting comfortably?

The basic saninstruktor type and made postwar so not difficult to pick up. NB I've seen what are larger versions of this in both black and green canvas recently. Avoid them they are post war civil defence bags.

Variations on the main saninstruktor satchel. This continued in production postwar in other WP nations often with pre-war Soviet components curiously (I've got a Polish one) avoid them they aren't in the right material.

I'll post some more variants later.

How far off the mark are the post war ones that show up everywhere? (like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150896108925) The obvious is the flap corners, reinforced edges, and liner colour, but other than that they do seem quite similar.
And is there any available photo of those small pouches in use by the way? I haven't seen them, but sadly haven't dug very deep either, sorry for these odd questions..

Thanks for posting that Catja - THAT is the postwar civil defence type I was talking about.

Ah! The obvious draw is that they can be had for under £10 +shipping, but if the size is all wrong anyway there's no point in going sewing on edges!

Use of a Post GPW haversack would be seen as just Pokemon by our Russian Reconstructors Comrade, you learn this….. they will have little patience with you.

Then you'll need the contents of course.

OTK87 (see Facebook) has a fine range of repro dressings (apart from knowing Dutch for many years I have no other connection  ).

The trouble comes when you're looking for things like the tourniquet and carry strap(s) - I'll post some photos when I get home tonight.

Well of course it would be "pokemon", but that's exactly why I asked how far off the pattern was. They are quite clearly related, and if it really was just a matter of rounding the corners, dying the liner and sewing on the edge-reinforcement, it would make it extremely easy to match the wartime pattern.

It's not worth the work. You can still get postwar examples of the first type I pictured plus there are decent repros around.

Like a lot of Soviet kit, though, you still have to "make your bones". We're not at the SoF level yet.

The tourniquet.

The strap. This, also, continued in use postwar.

And just to prove that they existed beyond the manual. Though being put to an unorthodox use...
