Hope this helps! For some reason the last image (fieldtable1.gif) doesn't appear in the post but if you click the name you'll see it. It has the measurements. I also have a scan of the original design drawing somewhere, but it's not very clear.

Original WW2-era tables have square legs but the 2 insides of each leg are tapered a bit. The top is made of 4 or more interlocking planks rather than a single sheet (single sheet is seen on post-war tables). The folded legs are held in place with 2 leather or webbing straps attached to the underside of the top.

Hi

That's brilliant thank you, already had one of those pictures, the others are a bonus, especially the sizing one and the detailed info about differences between WWII and post WWII types.

thanks again

Hello again .. Could you send me the scan of the original design if you can find it please ..

Also a question .. I notice on the pic with the sizes that there are two flat boards across the bottom of the table, (marked with question mark on attached pic) however in the other pictures they aren't there and neither are they there in a pic of an original that is for sale in the US on e-bay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252504790719? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Would that make the one in the sized picture a later type ??

Good question. They are not on the original plan but they do give the legs some extra support when folded out, and it allows to use longer screws for all 6 hinges. Also, it seems that at least some of the early production tables lacked the fastening clamps to secure the folded-out legs, the leg spreader was just a tight fit on those.

Mebe the cross boards only feature on the earlier tables to hold the separate tongue and groove boards together?

They scoffed and told us to get a life. These are the same people today, unsurprisingly, who are stridently arguing for curtailment of free speech not to offend Muslims."
