Hi Guys

I have just received my latest update from Epic and they are promoting there US small wall tent, it looks horrible to me, from the green rope to the poles, it also appears from the pics to be a strange color and the inside flaps look terrible anyone seen any in the person, the only good point is the price :-)

To be fair, I think it's alright.

YES the poles and pegs aren't correct, but we are looking at getting the wooden ones made for us.

The material is a tad more 'modern canvas' (can't quite put my finger on it) but it's actually quite good.

The colour is good too. I think it may be the photo's as the weather was naff and we had to do a rush job! Lol.

Now, yes I do work for Epic, but from a sincere 'Living History' perspective, I would go for one if I needed a small wall. I always try to give the customers my 'own' opinion (within reason, that won't get me fired!!).

Hope it helps a little?

Cheers

Adrian

Hi,
Is this the tent you are asking about? http://www.epicmilitaria.com/us-small-wall-tent.html

Cheers,
Chris.

A lot of work and expense to get it close to being right?
New poles, new pegs, new ropes and tensioners?
The originals are longer than they are wide?

What he said, plus. The door lacing is all wrong, material and style, the flue flap is wrong, the guy line fixings look wrong and a WWII Small Wall Tent doesn't have a guy line from the ridge, or the extra material on the end. To be honest, it doesn't look much like an original WWII Small Wall Tent at all. :?

Cheers,
Chris.

Really? REALLY? That doesn't look anything like a Small Wall Tent.

In short, save your money! Caveat emptor!

Cheers,
Ben.

Saw one up close at the weekend, it would be harder to find something right with it rather than find something wrong.

I wouldnt take one if they gave me it for nothing. :?

Cheap though, the fields of this isle will be covered in them by the end of the season.
Doesn't matter if it's right, the price is. That's what drives the hobby these days.

I must admit, when someone gives a "sincere living history prespective" saying they would go for it (albeit they do admit a vested interest) it is worrying. These are NOT wall tents, they are tents with a passing resemblence to something that looks like wall tent..............if your blind!

What beats the hell out of me is how they can make such a mess of something when there are originals around they could copy correctly ... if they could be bothered of course .. its the same really with a lot of repro stuff I find .. despite originals being around as a definitive guide, for some reasons the copies are often very bad.

I don't think these were a reproduction/copy.
I think these are a stock tent that has been stamped 'US' because it has a passing resemblance to something.
Near enough being good enough so many times.

Hi guys,

Cheers for the heads up. I will pass the comments onto the boss, and get this looked into. We haven't had these tents made. They're supplied by Mil-tec.

Leave it with me...

This not about the above tent, but the other reproduction Small Walls and Flys for sale atm, just didn't want to open a thread for something so minor, but if you buy one and think the guy tensioners (slips?) are a bit useless, they are fitted the wrong way round! Saw some more at the weekend. Easy to put right though. Go from the spliced loop for the peg (pin!), through the springy bit of the slip from the loop end first, through the grommet on the tent, then through the loop on the slip, and tie a knot. http://strictly-gi.com/wp-content/uploa ... ker_06.jpg
