I'm after advice on the lamp electric no4..the one with the leather tabs and sliding colour filters.Has anyone got one to work?What sort of battery did they take and is there a modern alternative available?I bought a 4.5 volt battery with the two bendable contacts...its a good fit but nothings happening!Cheers.

Ok...ive found out what i was doing wrong.I thought the - tab went into the brass clip thingy on the right inside.This is in fact for a spare bulb!

Its now working :)

Have you found one of the old pattern batteries with one contact on the front and one on the top?

Not that type...the ones I got have two bendable blades on the top.Got them on ebay.£5 for two Everready posted.I just searched for 4.5 volt battery.

What would the type you describe be used in?

Most war-time British Army torches require the battery as I described. They were discontinued in production many years ago.
