As far a I know, yes. Naturally there are casting differences from each foundry - I've a small pile of them and they vary by an inch or so from tip to tip when comparing the biggest with the smallest. Also, wear with use and resharpening slowly reduces their cutting edges. I've a 1915 dated example which has seen heavy use and is a good two inch shorter than the longest unissued 1940s example I've got.

Cheers for that Rob, it was just that i have acquired one that seemed dinky, 12 tip to tip and 5 wide (inches)

Just measured a few of mine up, and that's the size of them! All mine are near bang-on 5" wide, with most being around 12.25" tip-to-tip. The longest I've got is just over 13".
