I am in the process of making a Type D compo Ration crate with all it's variant contents... Bouchery in one of his illustrated books says the contents had 8 x 3 & 1/4 ounce cans of sardines and 3 x 16 ounce cans of bacon. The pics in the book are unreadable. Many replica labels are available but I have never seen bacon or sardines labels? Could any forum member point me in the right direction as a search on here and other forums came up with nothing.
Regards Chris

Chris, from doing my own research they are printed onto the tin directly. I'm making replicas of some of the tinned goods and self heating tins.

Early tins had labels I believe Comrades, that was your toilet paper (and the reason for the large pocket on your battle dress trousers).

The change over caused much discomfort for British Kriegenfangen that were guests of the Gitlerites, as it was a sole source of supplied "something to wipe your bum on".

Thanks for the replies..
I am eagerly awaiting Miss Spitfires rations as I am so pleased with the boxes that I bought last week and I must say Paddy's facebook page has some great photo's, but all of the sardine ration Labels seem to be of Canadian origin and not one of canned bacon. Come to think of it what is canned bacon? Is it like a tin of ham?? A tin of Spam?? If so what shape and size of tin?
After many searches I still cannot find a site that lists the contents of the A-G variant boxes. For some strange reason only 'D' ever seems to crop up on searches..
Regards Chris

Chris I'll see if I can find the photo but we're pretty sure that the sardines were printed onto the tin. Will have a dig through the files for you.

Thanks for the kind words about the other items! :)

Thought they were printed directly. I'm in the process of getting some of the old style key tins to knock a few of these up for a museum.
