Hi chaps

I had the chance to take some quick measurements of an original British grenade box today before the trader selling it started giving me the evil eye - I couldn't afford his asking price!

Anyhow the thickness of the timber used in its construction was 18mm - not sure what that is in Imperial - it's about 3/4 inch I think.

Now Pete's (Sgt Moon) drawing a few posts back shows the timber as being 1/2 inch thick. Pete's overall dimensions may be ok - but be aware if you're leaving the box open to display the contents then it just don't look right.

If you use Pete's drawing with the correct thickness timber then you'll have to alter the lengths of the sides, top and bottom to compensate.

Anybody had a go yet?

I have had two made up in kit form from a 1943 Mk36 grenade box i bought from Blunderbuss, the wood is thin but looks right. The overall size is smaller then ones I've seen at shows.
The lid that came with it was much thicker then the rest of it, I beleive that its not the original (As if!).
I will post pics as soon as I've put it together.

the plans i have came from the Grate war Society when i was a member and they where made up by Geoff who runs Tommy's pack filler website. at the time there where 50 off us all made six they are a copy off a first world war box the exact same size so maybe they where a wee bit different in the second war i don't know plans for compo box will be up soon as i get my scanner to bloody work (window vista will not let it work)

Strange I've never noticed this thread before... I've had an original grenade box in my collection for at least 10 years!

Too late now I guess.
