Hi there
I am really struggling to find any information on the type of sock worn with a male British Army Officer's Service Dress. Would they have been grey or khaki wool? Also, any idea where I might be able to purchase something that would look the part? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Susie

but remember since most if not all officers bought there own uniforms the socks may well have been any colour any style since in BD or SD with the brown boots the socks wouldnt show much for walking out with the shoes the socks would be more evident

Thank you for your speedy reply, much appreciated. I had my finger on the purchase button for a pair very similar, so you have just confirmed that I wasn't about to make a purchasing error!

Ah now that brings us on to the subject of shoes. Were there any strict rules on the type of shoe allowed to be worn when "walking out"? Would these have been something of the Oxford type? Again, I assume that Officers were allowed some discretion but are there any definite no-no's?

Thanks in anticipation

have a look at these photos should give you an idea, once again though as officers bought there own kit so long as they were roughly the same as the army pattern i reckon they could get away with a lot
