I'm somewhat confused about these. Originally I thought that these were normal British ammo boots with Itshide soles. I was then told that they were actually rough out service shoes with toecaps and with Itshide soles added. Now looking in US Army Rangers and Special Forces of WWII I see that they are indeed made of rough out russet leather, but are British made and seem to be made to the same pattern as ammo boots.

Apart from the pair in the book. Does anyone know of any photos of surviving examples of these? Or know of the original specifications?

Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe,

give '509' a message, Tim did a lot of research into these and even found a great 'repro' which he used for our Italy scenario last year. I think the design was taken from the British ammo boot for info. Robert Blacks new book shows some new photo's of the Rangers wearing them but the Todd Ross book is probably the best for the clarity of the pictures.

Cheers Dave

Lennon's will make these in 'rough-out' if you ask them.

Hi Anthony,

you can also use Service Boots for a Dieppe 1st Ranger impression for info, little bit easier to get hold of than a service boot repro

Cheers Dave
