Andy,
We had considered dabbling in the past but I think you can weaken your core impression if you do too many other things. It's a great unit to portray and well worth thinking about. The 5th are under represented in this country but then there's only really two units doing 2nd Rangers as well. I know there's the odd couple of guys here and there that are doing 2nd Rangers but in the grand scheme you can't factor them in. If you're thinking about doing it let me know as I may have some pictures of the guys. Obviously there's kit differences like the wearing of Hbt's only with their Corcoran's and other slight variations.

Dale.............

Cheers dale it would be much appreciated.

Yes i do agree the 5th are under represented. I don't think too many people know who they are in real honesty.

That would be awesome mate as i've had a thing for the 5th.

I was in a Day Of Defeat unit called the 5th Rangers and that sparked my interest. They seem to be forgotten against the 2nd Rangers.

'Reflections of Courage on D-day and the Days that Followed' by Moen & Heinen

'Lead the Way, Rangers' by Ranger Glassman
(you can read it online at http://www.fifthrangers.org/ or you can go to http://www.rangeronline.com/bookstore.html to order a hardcopy.)

'Training for Bloody Omaha' by Ranger Hathaway
(getting hard to find but you can go to http://www.5thrangersecoy.com/history/train/train.html
to read it online.)

'We Remember WWII: A Collection of U.S. Army Ranger Stories'
This one has great stories from all 6 ranger battalions, but the most detailed are from Capt Raaen and Pvt Herder from the 5th and from Strausbaugh from the 6th.

Good luck with it guys,

There's plenty of info out there on the unit if you look. There's even some colour shots of the battalion at the end of the war at a concentration camp, I know these pics are in the Histoire Collections book on the US army in Europe 43-45.

I'll try an dig some other info out for you be great to see the 5th being represented and you'll need to get over to Gary Sterns place at The Maisy battery. We are going over again soon and and also with our next major trip in June 2009 and you'd be welcome to join us on the beach along with a whole host of other US straightleg groups who will be there.

Cheers Dave

It's an Honour to have the 5th Rangers on board even if it does mean them taking up space in our tents!

Welcome!
Dale........

Well, you had to get someone to fill all those tents that you're hoarding.....

Good luck with the new unit!

Cheers,
Glen.
