I know i've brought this up from the dead but i've been doing some research into the 5th and it appears no matter where they were they all had the Diamond on the back.

I also went through some pics and when loading for D-day and on LCA's, the 2nd and 5th rangers most commonly had the chinstrap done under the chin. After landing, it is most commonly done around teh back of the helmet, but I was surprised to see several pics of both 2nd and 5th rangers with their chinstraps just hanging down.....
