I am trying to find out about the 111th (101st Oxfordshire HG):- 'Z' Anti-Aircraft Battery

I run the Bicester Home Guard OXF2. I am also the owner of a Fordson Wot2 and want to try an put markings on it relevent to the Home Guard. I am aware that after 1943 the Home Guard were involved with anti aircraft battery's and I also know that the 101st (Cowley) Home Guard were running a "Z" (rocket) anti aircraft battery. What I can not work out is why it was called the 111th (101st Oxfordshire HG)

Can anybody tell me why it was the 111th?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andy Hunter

111th was the regular army Royal Artillery contingent that manned the Z Battery during the day. The HG provided the night-shift cover.

Hi
Have you seen the following items in the Imperial War Museum? Looks like the mother-lode for what you are trying to find out:

Scrapbook, (55 pages) 101st Oxfordshire Home Guard AA Battery, c. 1940 - 1944
http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/ ... 1030000753

Photos, THE 101ST OXFORDSHIRE HOME GUARD AA "Z" BATTERY, ROYAL ARTILLERY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205047629

Hi Andy. Great! Do let us know what the IWM docs throw up. The two lots of photos don't say how many of them there are, but a 55 page scrapbook must be full of good stuff!
I myself do re-enacting as part of the 10th Battalion Suffolk Home Guard, see:

and

I love doing research and enjoy a challenge. Good luck, Owen.

Thanks Owen

I will let you know how I get on. I am amazed how many Hoem Guard groups are out there. We only started in January and so are still getting our act together.

Be good to meet up one day.

Regards

Andy Hunter

Andy - just off to a multi-period event at Kentwell Hall in Suffolk for the weekend (Home Guarding), but will talk more about Home Guard groups next week.
