After almost 2 1/2 years (!!!!!!), we are finally almost ready for prime time. Right now we are just wrapping up some of the relatively minor items. I have just made the final arrangements for fabrication of reproduction Dutch hobnails and ID tags (if anybody is interested in any either of these, we can make more). Everything else, we have managed to either obtain through Schipperfabrik or McFarthingbowl's (including some improvements we've made to many items), or through the help of the many friends I've made through this endeavor.

This has been a staggering undertaking, but it is easily the most rewarding project in my reenacting career. We have a solid base of guys who are just as excited as I am to finally go public, and we have begun aggressively recruiting now that we have adequate sources for just about everything that can be reproduced. While we will never be huge, our aim is to grow up to 8-10 active and engaged members (we're about half-way there).

I'd like to extend my immense thanks and appreciation to everybody on this list and elsewhere who has generously given of their time and expertise to help make our impressions better. We are still striving to fill in gaps (it will probably never end. . . I hope), but we are finally almost at a point of critical mass where we are ready to begin attending events with a reasonable number of men with a reasonably full impression.

As soon as we are able to take to the field, I plan to post photos of our group here. We also intend to put together a website for our group over the upcoming months, and will post a link here as soon as it's ready.

5 RI is a great example of what is possible when a forum like this brings together people with common interests from around the world. Without your help, 5 RI would be a shadow of what we hope it will soon become. I look forward to being able to meet each of you at an event soon.

Peter

Sorry to take so long to get these posted, but here - finally - are some first photos of the our first two guys fully kitted out in 1940 Dutch uniforms at our first unit meeting here in Virginia (just outside of Washington, DC). We will have more members coming online in the next few months. So far, we have gotten some very helpful suggestions on improvements we can make from here.

I hope you all enjoy the shots. It is still a work in progress, but we are enjoying the challenge.
