A really good bit of footage their.

Some of them look totally exhausted, some smile for the camera.

The variety of uniforms and equipment is also very interesting.

It's tragic they were serving the Nazi's who treated their nation so badly.

Freedom of expression is essential in enabling democracy to work and public participation in decision-making. Citizens cannot exercise their right to vote effectively or take part in public decision-making if they do not have free access to information and ideas and are not able to express their views freely. Freedom of expression is thus not only important for individual dignity but also to participation, accountability and democracy. Violations of freedom of expression often go hand in hand with other violations, in particular the right to freedom of association and assembly.

I suspect the footage is in or near Prague 1945.

1. There are US Soldiers at the roadside around 37 seconds in.

2. The few public are waving to them - the 1st Division POA switched sides and aided the insurgents during the Prague Uprising.

And their own nation treated them so well?

I reckon these poor blokes thought they might have had a chance of improving their lot by siding with the Germans and help to overthrow them pesky Bolsheviks.

One of the things about the war in the USSR is how the Germans never seem to have realised they just re-ignited the Civil War when they invaded.

If you read Vlasov's Prague Manifesto (nowt to do with the Prague Uprising and the POA involvement in that) it's like the policies of the Social Revolutionaries.

Dead Men Marching.
They got short shrift from their countrymen.
If a Red Army soldier taken prisoner was a 'Traitor of the Motherland' , what fate awaited someone who had fought under a foreign flag?
Contemporary quote, 'any Vlasovites we found were kicked to death.'
In most cases summary execution for the officers, long prison sentences for the rank and file, who would want the entry 'Vlasovite' in their prison file.
Unlike the British Frei Korps, most of whom received relatively short prison sentences.

Of the 5 million or so returning slave labourers, POWs, HIWIs, Vlasovites and Allied Trades some 250,000 were sentenced to a term of imprisonment or worse*. Most of the rest suffered varying degress of internal exile until Stalin's death and 40 years of employment discrimination and reduced pension rights. Some, however, were completely cleared though these were usually soldiers, sailors and airmen who had no choice in being taken prisoner due to wounds or circumstance.

*though it could be said that being sent to one of the Perm lagpunkts was a death sentence. And you'd get no argument from me about that.
