Kameraden,

Does anyone know how the German officers and NCO's were distributed in an OstBattalion? How far down the chain of command were they to be found?

Any information would be appreciated.

Gef. Krebs

Somewhere I have a list of personnel of an Ost unit (although you can't use the word "typical" with any of them, there was no "typical") and it shows the number of German officers and NCO's vs Osties. I'll try and find it for you.

The thing you need to understand though is that the nature of the unit, the exact period of time and the front it was deployed to at that time will greatly effect the outcome of those numbers.

An anti-partisan unit in Yugoslavia will be different to an artillery unit in France.

Also, don't imagine that Osties were never officers or NCO's - they were... sometimes.
