Mark..didnt the SS for propaganda purposes actually try to recruit from the US POWs captured in North Africa and Italy ?

I read / or thought i had read somewhere they did ?

No official unit ever existed. If anyone did get recruited they fell off the records as a recognisable outfit. I've never come across them. I'm sure that if anything did get done then we'd have read about it in some of the more salacious 'history' books around. like the British Free Corps, who numbered a measly 60 or so, they'd have been documented somewhere along the line. We'd also be seeing 'Amerikan Friei Korps' stuff on the reenactor market, for sure.

Maybe some Americans of German descent were in Skorzeny's PanzerBrigade for the battle of the bulge, but again, no documentation!
