I was at a militaria fair today ( http://www.j-v-m.dk/) and while I was there I spotted an original Charlemagne Division M43 tunic being sold for the princely sum of 1300 Euros.

Is this the going rate or was he pushing it a bit? It's the first time I've seen any foreign volunteer stuff for sale, so I'm not sure of the price level that they usually go for.

Regards

probably a original would go for 4-5 times that price

Really? Up to 6500 Euros? That's a Hell of a lot of money.

The tunic certainly looked real enough, as did the rest of the stuff he was selling, but I suppose anything can be faked.

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "Rarer than rocking horse s**t". The chances that it is in fact genuine are about slim to none. And as Paul A says if there are original ones about they'll be VERY expensive.

What kind of insignia did it have on it?

Cheers

I didn't get to look at it too closely, but it was badged up with standard Runes and blank collar insignia, it had the arm eagle and the French flag shield below, and I believe it had infantry shoulder boards too.
Unfortunately I didn't notice if it had a cuff title or not.

If it had a cuff title it was most definitely fake. Only a couple of hundred of them were issued.

Be nice if it was real though...

Just to get your 6000+ number:

an arm eagle: about 100 euro
shield: about 500-600 euro
cuff: about 2000-3000 euro
colar tabs: about 300-500 euro
shoulderboards: about 300-500 euro
jacket: ? euro

then if the insignia are there on the jacket and where untouched, not a restauration, you come to that high amount.

As I haven't seen French insignia on the collectors market (becouse I don't collect it) I only guessed the prices.

French SS insignia: rarer than rocking horse s**t. French armshields are going to be the most common and the cufftitle, which was issued only in the hundreds, so scarse as to be non existent. The 'Jean d'Arc' collar patches are all fakes so are the 'celtic cross' types. The French SS only wore blank black patches or standard SS runes.

Just like the original FJ helmets with Wehrmacht insignia that were all over the place at Stoneleigh! Not very likely you'll find one cheap and even less likely that you'll find one at all!

Paul a is right. By now, an original SS helmet found in Normandy costs at least €1500 among collectors...I let you imagine what an original Tunic costs.
