With mine (painted red), you can shake it and hear the sulfanilamide powder in it's packet. It's like having a very quiet maraca!!

I actually used one of these in an emergency a few years ago...

I was washing up in just shorts and a tea shirt before going to a private airsoft battle (i was umpiring it) and dropped a glass plate on the stone flooring... it went off like a grenade and tore a chunk out of my ankle. I just didnt have anything sizable to hand to patch up the gash when i remembered I had an unused carlise pack in my kit... so limped off to get it, opened the bugger up, poured the sulphamide all over the wound - had a go at trying to put a small stitch in to close it but hand was shaking too badly so just wrapped it up with the bandage..

Managed to get my jackboots over the top of it all and went off to the event, came back home later with a sock and boot fullof blood but it did actually heal up pretty quick after that. Still got an impressive scar off it though.

This was a war dated one got for a fiver from sabre sales and I'm sure I've ruined a piece of collectable kit but it was an emergency!

oooooooh, i'd be too bloody worried about using 70 year old gear on an open wound; but, probably sealed so well, i guess the contents would be ok........It's an interesting thread, as we all have shell dressings and carlisle packs still sealed, and like me, we are reluctant to open them up. Even though we have lots of duplicates, the collecters come out in us, and we fell it would ruin them. I have about 4 shell dressings, and a few carlisle tins, one day I keep saying that one day I'll open one up and peek, and then display, but don't.....

From memory it had a paper sachet of sulphamide in it, two or three safety pics and a big compressed ffd type bandage with a padded section.

I had two choices at he time.. 70 year old bandage or teatowell.... :)

That and it was about 6am and I had an event that I *had* to be at or 60 odd people would have been let down.
