Hey guys,

Just interested to know, was it at all common for medics to run around without their harnass and having a single medic bag or two medic bags on gp straps? (as seen in.. i hate to say it.. band of brothers haha)

I don't have and haven't seen many photos of ww2 US medics.

Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

As you might be aware, the Parachutist Medic was detailed to carry a single Medical Pouch only (as were all Medical Officers, for that matter). The straps that were to be used when a single Pouch was carried alone was the Litter Carrying Strap. Of course, it would be impossible to claim that the "GP Strap" was never used, but it certainly wasn't widely done by Medical troops!

It's worth bearing in mind though, that the Bag you see "Doc" Roe carrying in Band of Brothers (or at least the one I think to which you're referring) isn't a standard Medical Pouch - it's some kind of fantastic 'rigger-made' bag, so is probably not an ideal point of reference for your regular Medic impression!

I hope that the Photo Gallery on my website will assist with photographs > http://med-dept.com/gallery/index.php

Thanks,
Ben :)
