The Holland Patch: The 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment at Arnhem.

I just heard about about this book yesterday, and was wondering:

a) If it's any good?

b) If anyone could tell me more about it, i.e. how much does it cover? Is it only the battalion's experience at Arnhem, or does it also cover the training etc. leading up to it?

c) If anyone here knows where I could find a copy?

Cheers
Joe

Looks like it's a rare tome. It was self published by the author and the print run sold out. I cant find it on any of the main second hand dealer sites or other specialist dealers like Caliver or Motor books. It does seem to have had good reviews. I did see a newspaper article about it from earlier this year in which the author was trying to contact veterans ot their families for additional information and stories for a planned second edition. You could try contacting him at warhound45@aol.com to see when it might be coming out.

Its a very good book, I'd heartily recommend it, it only really skims things up to Arnhem but once there its got lots to say - Simon is a really good guy and had issues with his original run of the book (there is a lot of politics in releasing Arnhem books), however he is well on his way to a reprint so probably best wait for that rather than try find one of the earlier copies (it'll be cheaper and I imagine have new info).

Cheers

Alistair

I'd echo that too. Very good book and pleased to hear that there is a new print run. I was lucky enough to pick up one the first time around. The book itself has 6 pages on the Battalion's exploits from 1940 but when it comes to Arnhem, I'd say it was at LEAST the equal of By land, Sea and Air and it does compliment the book very well.

All the best,
Matt

Do you mean that it'll be reprinted without revision, or not reprinted at all?

he was looking at doing a complete revised book with lots of new information and some very nice, unseen private photos of a certain VC winners gun crew in N.Africa, but after looking into costings,it may not be worth him doing it as he wanted to donate all profits to Arnhem veteran fund,& after looking at the publishing it may not be profitable.
i'm still trying to bribe, blackmail & bully him into thinking again.
