Can anyone advise on the best book available about the NFS during the Second World War?
Got speaking to a chap at the weekend at Chesterfield who ignited an interest!
Also would be interested in the equipment belt if anyone has one for sale? Webbing or leather.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
Shire do a title 'ARP and Civil Defence in the second world war' by peter doyle (got mine on ebay :) a bit cheaper than I could in the shops) which does cover both the AFS and NFS in some detail............although I guess it depends what you want to find out;

There is also the group 'Heroes with Grimy Faces, - ww2 fire services living history group' (www.wwiifire.co.uk/index.htm) of which I'm a member.

Belt, they do come up on ebay from time to time, but be carefull, most of them are short.........when worn its ideal to have 2 belt holes showing past buckle.......

Give me a shout if I can be of help

Andy

Thanks to you both! Will look into those leads.

As for short belts! I've always been lucky in that department! I am of a very wartime size and can get into most wartime sized uniforms.

All the best,
Matt

NCA75 - is it "Fire Over London" you're thinking of.

Dog Roger - there is a copy of "Fire Over London" for sale on AbeBooks, see: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookD ... %26sts%3Dt

Also enter "national fire service" into the Abebooks search to see several others.

Yea thanks. I do have that one in my collection already. Thanks for the response.
Got another book with some really nice colour pics in it. I'll have to post a few here.

All the best,
Matt
