Good morning all,

We, the West Sussex Irregulars, are looking for new members, in particular for our popular WW2 Mobile Blood Donation Unit scenario. What we need are enthusiastic individuals with an interest in displaying this aspect of the UK Home Front in a realistic manner.

The make-up of the units varied according to command structure and availability (there was no National Blood Service until 1948) but generally speaking, there would have been one Medical Officer (civilian or military), four nurses (typically Red Cross VAD), and two orderlies (generally ATS). What we are particularly looking for is one or more orderlies to join us on a regular basis at our events (3/4 per annum) in the South East of England, although extra nurses would also be very welcome.

We don't generally have the space available to depict the typical structure in full, so we restrict ourselves to one donation bed, plus the admin setup (booking in, and tea/biscuits afterwards). Our "donors" are not re-enactors; we use members of the public for this, which makes for an extremely interactive and busy day.

If you would like more details, please drop me a PM!

Best regards

Peregrine

Hope you have had some joy Chris.
I think your display is one of the best on the 'circuit' and deserves to be seen out and about.
Just got back from a lovely event that your blood donors would be great at. Most beautiful setting, not far from you! :)

Hi Jude,

Good to hear from you, and thank you for the kind words. We were supposed to be at Michelham on the Sunday (with Vampire Central) but illness prevented us from being there. Hopefully we'll make it next year. Next up for VC is the Bluebell in September, and then hopefully Kent Life. In between, we are displaying our vintage picnic scenario (accompanied by our Morris 8) which is a lot of fun for not too much work! Spam and cucumber sandwiches galore. Shoreham Fort's Military History weekend (3/4 June) was great fun and we collected hundreds of pints over the two days!

Hopefully we'll be able to snare a couple of ATS and/or VAD to boost the numbers for future events!

That was the one Chris. Michelham. What a stunningly beautiful place and they treated us so well, but shush....don't want every-one to know that. Having to do just localish events on my own this year till end of October, so can't make Bluebell. (Would have been nice to bring the 'Awestin' to camp, but hopefully we'll catch up at Kent Life.
Jude
