Just testing the water here. I have been re enacting with Grenadier regiment 916 for a year now and I am also looking into joining if there is such a thing Polish army 1939 group but have yet to see anything concrete in the UK? i know there are groups in Poland and the U.S. but would really like to hear from anyone who is forming a unit or wants to form one as I will be keen to help form one or join.

Regards,

Alex

There's no groups in the UK that I'm aware of but Corporal Bang and Kostya are probably the best people to ask.

It would be nice if I could get a few of our guys, but they only have hats at the moment. I have a basic infantryman uniform.

Tidy and nice to see something different :)

Our next display is set roughly around August 31st / September 1st '39, so you'd fit in perfectly.

I'll watch this thread with interest to see how everyone gets on.

Evening Alex - and others interested in the Polish army of 1939!

There isn't exactly a group at the moment in the UK - for a while it was just me, although I am also a member of a group in Poznan known as Odwach. However, at Detling last year I was joined by Neil and Paula who have also got the uniforms and equipment together, so there are now three people here representing the Polish army of 1939 - here is a pic of us at Detling last August -

Image

I am in the middle in the woollen uniform, with Neil and Paula each side in the Drelich cotton drill uniforms. The small display behind is a mix of mine and Neil's equipment - not a major collection yet, but it keeps growing! I have a proper Plachta Namitowa (shelter half) now, rather than the Austrian WW1 one behind us - just have to sew what looks like hundreds of buttons it!) so that will help.

Wladek - whereabouts are you in the UK? The three of us are hoping to be at the English Heritage Kelmarsh event over the 20th-21st July (link here - http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/events/history-live/introduction) but if you could get there then you could meet up with us for a chat? Alex - if you could get there then it would be great to meet you too!

Hi there. Thanks for replies/PMs. Nice pic and kit collection already!

I am at Kelmarsh this year too, hopefully will be a dry one this time. If you see a German grenadier heading towards you for a chat that will be me.

P.S. The Polish remake of the westerplatte movie is out at the end of the month, looks like it will be a good one so will help to raise the profile of the 39' Polish army in the 21st century.

Regards

Alex

Well my kit and collection has taken (as MikeR reminded me a couple of weeks ago) since 2005 to get to its present position - and a rather substantial helping hand from numerous friends in Poland to get it to where I am today! But, as most reenactors know, a collection is never really finished...

Word of warning,it really is a bugger to get the kit ,needless to say,you cant just barrel up at the SOF stall with a wodge and walk away ,with, well, anything :)
I could be suprised that there isnt actually a Polish Polish unit in the UK but one answer might be that it wasnt a cheap hobby to get into in Poland and so those in it maybe did not have the need or wish to move here.

So who were the '39 Poles at Kelmarsh? Didn't go myself just seen a couple of photos from Craig Palfrey (WW1 Russian).

Agreed - kit has proved difficult for people to get outside Poland. Schipperfabrik in America does some uniform bits, but they are taking ages to make it at the moment. There are people making uniforms in Poland, but they usually only speak Polish, so you either need a knowledge of Polish, or have people in Poland to do the translating for you. (worked that way for the boots I got last year - although I do need to get them to stretch a little... :? ) As for SOF, they probably don't do much at all - apart from maybe getting away with a pair of German ankle boots, which don't look too bad? Some small items of personal kit can be used too - but no real basic big stuff!

There is a small 'Polish' Polish unit in the UK - unfortunately (for me anyway!), they don't do the 1939 campaign! The group is called Poland - First to Fight, and portrays the 1st Carpathian Brigade as they were during the siege of Tobruk. The three of us 1939 Poles, and the visiting 1944 Europe campaign Poles who came over from Poland, put on a joint display last year at Detling which I think went down very well! The 1939 contingent will be back at Detling this year, once again alongside Poland First to Fight, but unfortunately none of my friends from Poland will be over this year.

The 1939 Poles at Kelmarsh were yours truly, and Neil and Paula - as pictured at Detling last year, a little further up this thread!

Had a great time, and it was good to get to meet up again with Martyn and Craig from "The Russians". It has bought some new ideas for the two small groups to work together again in the future too! I unfortunately also didn't get any pics from the weekend (apart from a good one of Craig in his Cossack uniform - not yet downloaded) so if anyone did then I would like to see them!

Just small correction ;) We are LHG First To Fight. At the moment we have 8 members. Not many but we still growing :). We are portraying two big Polish units from WWII: 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade and Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade/3rd Carpathian Rifle Division. For more information check our forum http://www.first-to-fight.co.uk/forum/index.php or Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/LHG-Firs ... 1516988621

Thanks

Should check this forum more often :D . I'm up North, I did Kelmarsh once with the Far Setting Sun but none of the groups I am on the 'periphery of' were there this year. In fact we are not out much this year at all.

Well there is always Detling? If you could make it then just let me know in good time so I can see if I can get another pass from LHG First to Fight!
