Didn't know whether to put this in VVS but decided on here.

A few of these seem to be still going.

In production until 1952.

By Lenin! It looks like those filthy Capitalists have stolen an honest advance proletarian design and used it to make buckets of money!

Hmmmm yes

Seriously, what I've read says that the 'pre-war Douglas DC3 design' was licensed for production in the USSR in 1943.

Why it specified the 'pre-war...DC3' I have no idea as I thought that the Dakota was the DC3 renamed for war service. The only differences being likely to be the instrumentation being in Azbuka and km/h & metres etc.

Happy to be corrected though!

Hmmm.... maybe we should import a few. Would make a nice centrepiece to a Beltring Display!

the li-2 was a licence built dc3.

main external difference was that the large cargo door was on the opposite side to the American built aircraft (which was also supplied to the USSR in some numbers).

Some marks of LI-2 were also equipped with gun turrets similar to those on the SU-2.
