Did they ever use gliders to bring in heavier equipment or were they a purely parachute force?

Just noticed this - there were a couple of gliders in use to my knowledge during the war but both were light troop carrying types.

What happened to my reply to Guldan? I must have replied becuase I had a notification of a new post. Anyhow.

Guldan, first off, the troops carried by glider were not paratroopers. Secondly, to answer your question, see the 'Glider Loads' link from the 'Gliders' page on my GPR website.

Given the location of the thread I imagine that the question concerned the Vozdushno Desantnye Vojska = Airborne Landing Troops and was about whether they were purely a parachute force or included gliders.
