Finally got my grandfathers release certificate.

Nursing orderley class II GP C
Enlisted 15 January 1940, discharged, 14th March 1946.

I do however hope someone can help me with what his commanding officer wrote:

A smart, keen and hard working orderley, who would have been considered for promotion had he a higher release group He has served in three theatres of war (I'm only aware of two, North Africa & Italy) and has gained good all round experience. It is always.... (cant read the next item...) and has proved himself a useful soldier.

My query is, what does his commanding officer mean by 'Higher release group'

Now I have his service number I'll be getting in contact with the MOD for his service record as there are a few anomolies regarding his leave pattern I would like to see if I can iron out.

Regards

I would assume down for discharge at a later date. Depending on how long you served and when dictated when you were discharged.
