Evening, I have a couple of original dark blue Ratings caps, one has HMS cap tally the other no cap tally, a bit on the small size around 6 7/8 and was wondering what they were worth before i chuck them on evilbay, also have a couple of white tops but they seem to be in plastic with a lining of red and green (i presume to make sure everybody puts them on the right way, any ideas?
Tony

Put them on evilbay, they will find their mark, I picked up a repro tally for £1.00, the guy was selling loads of them, the first one I had in the Sea Cadets you had to blanco, then the plastic ones came out in the mid? 60s.

What size are the plastic ones? Could potentially use one and have it altered.

I like it, WW2 dated, it would look great in my 70th VE and VJ exhibition, vinyl early 60s, the first white ones you had to blanco them, I'm using a white one with HMS Tally  .

Second Cap. this has got a black cap band and it looks like it may have had a cap badge through it at some point.

in the third photo you can see where the cap badge was, but it is very difficult to see from the outside.

The white top cap, top of which is vinyl

In my original post i stated that i had two white top caps, was wrong, the other cap it a Royal Marines cap with removable white cloth cover and removable red band and cap badge. Again i can't find a date but there is a label with size 6 7/8, the chin strap and small buttons are missing.

Ah those ratings caps look good! I had to wait ages to find mine. It's a minty in 7 1/4 with the makers sticker still in it etc. If they'd have been bigger I'd have had one for a summer cap!

any idea why mine has got the red and green colours, or is it port and starboard to help the owner put it on right.

It's tough to say, the first hat with the HMS tally is in good condition (although would need reshaping - easy enough to do). The second one has some minor damage on the inside, nothing major. It depends how much you paid for them. I'd say no less than £20 for each...perhaps £30 for the good one. The modern bits I'm not really sure.
