Just reading about identity documents issued to people during WW2 in Jon Mills book 'Within the Island Fortress'. It says RN officers (including Marines) were issued with a Naval Identity Card for Officers, S1511 which was introduced in March 1940. WRNS and QARNNS were issued with them in August 1940. I had assumed they all carried the Pay and Identity book S43A, however according to the book this was not the case.
Has anyone seen or got one of these wartime S1511's?

I cant help with the S1511, but I do have a few S43A's issued to Navy officers so I'd say they did carry those, so possibly they carried both.

Cheers

Alistair

Thanks Alastair. I agree, I have a couple of officers Pay and identity books too so I am a bit confused, maybe they carried both or perhaps the s1511 superseded the book?

Tony, yes they did carry both. there's an AFO about it somewhere. If I can find it I'll post it up.
