Research

www.battlefield.ru - The Russian Battlefield. If you interest is tanks then this is the place to go. The 'I Remember' section has lots of veteran memoirs too.

www.iremember.ru - The Russian original for the section mentioned above. Has more biographies but you'll have to put them through a translator first - unless your Russian is better than mine!

www.redarmystudies.net - What it says on the tin. Lots of useful articles and links on the Red Army at war many from the Voenny Istoricheskii Zhurnal - all translated of course.

http://rkka.ru - all in Russian but a good site on the Red Army

www.mannerheim-line.com - a site maintained by our comrade from North Front, Bair Irincheev, on the Finnish Defences of the Winter War.

http://www-cgsc.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/csi.asp - lots of online books not just about the Red Army

http://rkkaww2.armchairgeneral.com/

The site owner seems to be a patriot so some of his opinion pieces are...interesting, but the data & pictures are good.

Comrades,

This is now the official RKKA re-enactment sticky thread. I will gather info here so people interested in fulfilling their patriotic duty to the Motherland can easily find what they need and quickly be throwing back the Fascist Invader!

Post any other good Soviet links to this thread (try to keep the chit chat out of here tho). I've made it sticky so everyone can find the links easily.

When you post a link, I'll hack it into Sasha's message.

Za Rhodina!

Andrei

As you know I met some of the North Front guys in Prague and a couple of them have a militaria business.

All in Russian and prices in roubles (c.50 to the pound right now)

Comrade you overlook one basic fact:

Moose and Squirrel are number one enemy of the Soviety people. Our political officer tells us this, so it must be true.

Can I recommend the magazines on this Russian web site
www.aviapress.com/viweproducer.htm?ORU

I ordered the Maxim Machine gun issue which although I could not obviously read the text, the pictures were superb and certainly advanced my knowledge of the subject.

The magazine took about 28 to arrive wraped in brown paper and tied up with string. Much more environmentaly friendly.

You gonna hack all these links into your message at the top of this thread Sasha?

I'll get someone to tidy this up a bit later once you've done it.

I have to admit that I have tried ordering a book from Armybook (the big Shalito book, which is shown as in stock on the website) - they took my money and then told me that the book wasn't in stock, but they would try to get it for me.

After 4 months of e-mails back and forth, they eventually said that the couldn't get it in paper and offered it to me in e-book form, with some other books. I asked for a refund, but they said that they could not refund my card, as the details had gone off their system after 4 months. So I gave them a list of about 10 possible books I was after, and some suggestions for other topics I was interested in (Leningrad.) They replied that none of the books I wanted were in stock, and that they did not have anything on Leningrad.... They suggested some other e-books they had, but none of these interested me.

Eventually, they sent me the Shalito book on a CD (which is about 1/3rd of the price of the paper book - but I would have prefered a paper copy), and now don't reply to my e-mails when I enquire about other books, or a possible refund.

Hmm, thanks for that got to admit I never had a problem but it's been a while since I dealt with them.

edit: Right, that's the links hacked in and I've removed mention of the offending book dealer.

They probably are still OK - but I would recommend that anyone wanting to order from them, e-mails them first to check if what they show on their website is actually in stock! If I had done that I wouldn't have the trouble I did! (Just got too used to dealing with internet sellers who only have it in their website when they have it in stock and can actually sell it....)
