Help please?
I am currently reenacting as a Lovat Scout circa Italy 1944. Regarding footwear, should I go with A, leather soled Ammo boots B, DMS boots
Or C, Swiss/ Italian Mountaineering Boots? Your thoughts please.

Cheers, Chris

Hiya Chris -

Go with the ammo boots - never DMS - you get to use those with so many other impressions.

Whilst the Ski/March boots were used for mountain foot patrols (they are so more efficient on rock and scree surfaces than studded ammo boots (even if studded climbing boots were the norm at this point in history), the right ones are heavy and expensive.

I'd go for the ski/march boots if you were doing fully laden mountain troops not seen that much in Italy, sadly. One day we'll do an event where the skis are appropriate :)

Thanks for the advice. I have been generally dressing for mountain patrol with windproof suit and bergan, thats why I was thinking of going for mountaineering boots.
