Hello Andrew
Those pictures are from a book called SURBITON BOMBED by Mark Davison and Paul Adams.
Surbiton you might remember, those that are old enough, were featured in the tv series The Good Life with Richard Briers and Felicity Kendall. Fifty- nine people lost their life when over 400 bombs rained down on them. One of the reasons i believe the area was hit so hard was the close proximity to Kingston where the Hawker Hurricane was produced before being assembled at Weybridge. Those that are interested i can highly recommend reading this book.

Another reason for bombing surbiton ( i have lived here for 67 years) is that the railway is in a cutting, plus it is and was the main line ( London and south Western Railway) that went to the south and southwest coasts. I think the book is somewhat in accurate as all of the bombs dropped were high explosive. The church and surrounding area was hit by incendiary bombs. Loan Raider Aircraft were quite common, (also not far away was RAF Chessington). My father was on fire watch duties as he was medically exempt from the armer forces.

"Surbiton you might remember, those that are old enough, were featured in the tv series The Good Life with Richard Briers and Felicity Kendall" unfortuneatly filmed entirely in hounslow not surbiton
