I had the chance to spend some time with the folks from Ops 39-45 yesterday at the West Bromwich St George's Day event, apparently there were up to 15,000 people in attendance.

Here are a few pix I took while in my AFPU guise, it was a bit unnerving being the only representative of the WW2 British Army apart from a crowd of veterans, though the local TA were pleased to see a fellow 'Royal Engineer' which was nice

Also met a few jolly people from The Victorian Westerners, who were doing wandering Home Front impressions including LDV.

Enoch was adopted as a sort of joint mascot for the group photo when he visited the 'aerodrome' with his owner. The resident carrier pigeon was not too jealous :D

If 'Enoch' had been a Rottweiler, I might have been worried too

In life, it pays to carry a sense of humour with you at all times, I have found.

Well its the morning after my birthday and during the night I have acquired a large scratch on my back from a tree somewhere, a road sign, an awful taste of gin and some other wierd stuff that was like carpet cleaner, and my arm hurts when I lift it up!
All in all, fantastic!

Yup,

It's a full size replica, it used to fly but had a wizard prang so is now just for static display hire. It's a Mark 1, and you can get inside and operate the controls.

Spitfire is a full size replica made completley from wood. It flew with a Jag car engine inside it for approx 6 years. The owner then had the undercarriage fold up on him whilst landing - after this he decided to ground the aircraft. It was then sold on to Solent Sky who actually take this to airshows for people to sit in.

We used this at Earls Court in conjunction with the Merlins over Malta team. Interestingly the cockpit itself is wrong - it is actually too big for a Spitfire cockpit and some controls are in the wrong area.

Kind regards
