This BRA Bulletin article may help to date some of the early TV shows we were involved in.

Thruxton was the "Beltring" of the early days, everyone into WW2 Reenactment went to Thruxton in those days.

Back to 1978 for moment......

Image

I was looking for an old newsletter produced by the BRA Southern Germans called "Ugly Business", I do have a single issue
somewhere, anyway I discovered one of the very first membership cards and this is what they looked like back then.

Image

Back in 1978 the American, British and German groups were of equal size, so a membership number of 32 puts me within the first dozen
Wehrmacht reenactors in the UK..... how far we have come since then in numbers, the hobby has grown beyond our
wildest dreams :D

The original photo is in A4 size. It was taken at a BRA private battle event.

The late Phil Plane (BRA South) with Harry Barnes (BRA North).

No health and safety back then and yes the flame thrower did work!

I have posted this on another thread once before, but it does belong here too.

BRA BULLETIN September 1980

Read the original newsletter, the reports on the shows, private events and the critics.
If you were not there 30 years ago? Then these 22 pages will take you there!

(Page two is blank, I have let it remain, or else someone would say a page is missing).

I am am sure that there are many others reading this with pics of their own from the 1978-1988 period?

But I seem to be the only one doing all the work

Another 1980 "BRA Bulletin" will follow soon.

Cheers, Bill.

God Bless Mike Ross.......i spent many a saturday at Quartermasters at the Angel sifting through piles and piles of stuff way back in the day when US militaria was prevalent and cheap......

then it used to be up to Call to Arms and then Regimentals......

Halcyon days Bill

Lloyd

As someone who has only been in this hobby for around a year now this thread is absolutely brilliant! Just shows how things that need to be remembered can grow and flourish in the right hands, keep posting those pics Bill, I for one would love to see more!

Another 1980 BRA Bulletin.....

This one is from November (they were published every two months back then).

Worth reading and page 18 covering an article about press and publicity is still valid 30 years on.

@ Dallas,

It could be Andy Haydon, I do recall hearing the name often at about that time.

Cheers, Bill.
