must be about '79 or '80, as for location, I can't remember. Me and Dad went everywhere together !
I know that spotter plane was more than likely Kneborth Hall. As for the others, don't know, and Dad can't remember.

Remember in the late 80's when i used to collect 3rd Reich books before i got into reenacting, there was a book dealer called Lee timmings ( think that was his surname name) who tried to get me to join a German reenactment group think they were based around the manchester reenacting 916 not 100% sure thou on either accounts.

Hi Bill,

You might not remember me, but I used to be the unit commander of the German Unit that had the Gulworthy site in Tavistock. Not a BRA unit, but of the Phoenix Group, the 111th Panzer Grenadier Regt, they were good times.

You might also like to know that the three photos you have up are wrong, first off top 2 they are from the Phoenix Group not BRA, the two young guys are Barry Gronsky with the Glasses, and the other one with the PPSH was called Andrew I think, can't remember his last name for the life of me.

The other Photo is just below the kilns, and the guy in the corner is Dean Butler, he was using a ZB 26 that weekend, then there is Barry Gronsky again, then the guy on the left is Colin Pratt, then me with my back to the camera (Unteroffizer), then last of all Paul (Podge) I think his name was. Both those photos were taken in 1987, I didn't join the group until 1982-83, and when these Photos were taken I was Unit commander, so you looking at 1987 ish.

As for the Last one Fred Walker never came to Tavistock, I'd know if he had, as it was our groups site. you must be getting senile in your old age mate

By the way, the only two groups that ever got an invite to come to that site were 2nd Battle Group and BRA, we never invited any other groups to that site.

I have posted a couple of Photos taken at the same time as yours, One with Berry, Dean and Andrew, and one with me in a Greatcoat with Alan Butler another guy from our unit.

I have a hard time remembering what we were doing then as well so don't worry.

Hi Tony,

From half a dozen miles down the road from you, Yes it has been a long time, just thought I would put poor old Bill right, I know when I was unit commander it was hard to tell us apart from BRA, Even so he should know his own group, LOL.

Of course 1982 was before I joined but I remember you all talked about that battle at Gulworthy, as I remember BRA lost the site for the group and it took Gail almost two years to get it back for us, we had to make do with the old railway tunnel site in Tavistock, which was ok.

The good old days.

Hi Dave, I am not losing my mind as you suggest, it is as sharp as it ever was

1. However, if you are refering to this pic? The caption reads "a Tavistock private battle".

2. Where does it state that they are BRA members or in my group in the caption?

3. Where on the Fred Walker caption (on same post) does it state Tavistock area?

The picture in question contains no date or caption on the reverse (mine do), it was
given to me by Gail Lavigne.... I placed it in "1982" because it looked right, if however
you feel it is later, then by all means I will ammend the date and NAME the group.

The only group I knew from the early days in the Gulworthy Mine were the "Hermann
Göring Division" Reenactment Group, and the photo was clearly not them.

Cheers, Bill.

If however you are refering to this photo? They are my former group "BRA Cornwall Branch" 1980-1984.
(after 24th March 1984 disbanded and absorbed into BRA South).

We used Gulworthy as a training site between 1981-1983, mostly we would go there and never see
another soul all weekend....we did not always ask permission, but sometimes we would meet Gail Lavigne,
Gary Eastman or Tony Crofts.

Tony Crofts is one of my valued followers of this thread and he will confirm that I had no direct knowlege
of any ban caused by BRA, I never knew what happened and perhaps your good self or Tony could PM me
on this subject? I will see what I can trawl from the old BRA newsletters.
On a personal level, Tony and I always worked very close...until I stepped down to re-join the RAF in March 1984.

BRA "Cornwall Branch" consisted of:

Bill Medland
Wolfi Dickinson
Jim Tothill
John Valencia
Martin Medland

So, Dave, I do know who was in my group, not gone daft yet Matey

Hi Bill,

Your totally right in 1982 we were Herman Goring, if you remember we used the old fort in Plymouth as well and you and I went to spend the night at your Grans in Plymouth after going to the pub.

But these photos date from 1986-7 not 1982, and they are the old Phoenix Group. Not sure where you got the Photos from but it was not Gail. Gail only once in all the time out at battles did she take some photos and that was not during that weekend, I've never seen those two Photos before, and I sent her the photos to have a look at and she said the same, she agreed with me they were taken at the same time as mine from the look of it, and it was around 1986-87 but she never seen those two before, But she does not remember handing you any photos, She said she has not seen you in almost 25 years and that predated the photos, as I said I've not seen them before either.

Best Regards

Dave
