Hi everyone

My name is Geoff Oliver. I live near Kettering, Northants and I'm a member of Desborough and Rothwell Photographic Society.

I have been taking reenactment photos since 2007. You are most likely to have seen me at the Great Central Railway, Crich Tramway Museum, or The Festival of History at Kelmarsh Hall. I also covered Spanhoe Airfield in 2008. I am usually accompanied by my larger than life mate Barry who is also a member of D&RPS.

My worst thing is that I am naturally shy so I regret that I am not always good at approaching people and getting to know them as much as I should do, although I do try. I have recently launched my own web site and am currently spending many hours sorting through all my past photos and uploading them. I also enjoy making audio-visual slideshows of my photos and I am hoping to load some more of those onto YouTube later this year.

My most recent event was the Great Central Railway on 11 June (I went on the dry day!), my next will be the Festival of History on 16-17th July and then I am hoping to be at Crich in August.

Geoff

Welcome aboard Geoff.
Some nice shots there.

I confess I'm shy too, which can be hard if you want to do some street photography. Luckily re-enactors are a vain bunch and love having their pictures taken ;)

Thanks for the welcome Rick.

I always feel we are very lucky as photographers to have such willing subjects for our photos, and I know that sometimes there seem to be more photographers than reenactors, which must be very frustrating. I'm always grateful for the patience and co-operation of the reenactors. Regarding shyness, of course there is a problem with introducing yourself before taking your photo as your intended subject can sometimes become suddenly very self-concious and you miss the natural looking photo you were looking for.

Geoff

Be very careful about loaning original items...also, please keep an eye out for :
*Still missing* Because some folks are devoid of an ounce of honesty or integrity.
Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]

Aaaw :|

Then I would blame the lousy photographers or the cameras ;)

Geoff, I know what you mean about natural photos. Wearing a period uniform helps to blend in. It works even better with a small sized camera. They don't notice you're there until they hear the click of the shutter.
Planned photo shoots work best for me personally, but as I'm nowhere near professional these are rare.

Cheers,

Rick

I guess I should class myself as a reenactor photographer as well, although I re-enact at the same time so strictly not purely a photographer.

I enclose a couple of pictures...

Oh look it is Das Heer, here.....

Comrades, these excellent images are a good study of need to adjust Vehicular Camouflage schemes to match local conditions as well Comrades, that Tiger is a sore thumb for a Regimental A/T Battery.

Nice work.

Hi there, Paul here.

I've only been photographing as a hobby since March 2011 and have been to a grand total of one re-enactment exhibition which was the Railway at War exhibition at the Northampton & Lamport Railway in September 2011. A link to my set of photos from that exhibition are here http://www.flickr.com/photos/paulrstephens/sets/72157628099692872/ with a sample below.

I enjoyed the exhibition and am planning on attending more similar events this year. I would be grateful for any advice from fellow photographers, particularly with regards to the opening post about the 'concern about photographers'.

Cheers,

Paul
