Hi,
Last year on the Pickering weekend, at the Goathland station (maybe Grosmont?) there was a tented stall behind the station selling 1940's clothing which included some really good replica WRNS, ATS and WAAF stockings. My partner got some brown ones for her ATS uniform. I have a friend who is putting a WAAf uniform together and needs the pale grey stockings for it.
Does anyone know who this retailer was, there was no address or name on the card in the stockings, and I didn't think to ask at the time.
Thanks

Have a search in the female section, I posted a link there last year. Try search words 'Lisle'

Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]

Hi Kate,
Thanks for your help, but still struggling. I looked for a link with lisle and read a few threads but apart from Funn I have no solid leads. The Funn ones look great but at £20 a pair are a bit pricey!
I was hoping to locate the lady selling the ones at Pickering, they were great and about £10 to £12 in the main wartime services shades.
Regards
Tony

Thing is Tony, they are worth it, you only need to buy one pair. They repair again and again..really worth the money.
There was a lady selling others for £12 but she has run out by all accounts.
I'm hoping to source some in July but that's probably too late.

There really isn't anywhere else at the moment - I'm sure they weren't quite that much when I bought some last year but as Kate says you don't need loads of pairs

Jenn did you get that from that lady darn sarf? (the one I gave you on Facebook) they were only about £12 through her but she's run out now.
Tony, if you can wait until July I'm sourcing some for about £10 a pair, in the meantime a number of companies on the high street do a grey wool tight, but they're not ideal. Alternatively Angela (partner of Tim Bucklow on here) has some private purchase grey rayon (only for Officers though) for about £10 per pair but only in small sizes.

Hi Kate,
OK thanks for your advice. I'll try and persuade my friend they are worth the £20, if not I may be in touch sometime in July. Incidentally what do you know about WRNS tropical uniform? What was favoured, short white socks or stockings (tights?) and what type were these wool too?
Thanks
Tony

Yeah that's the lady, from Butler and Sweethearts, hers were only £12, but Funn (of Sweden) have an agent here and charged about £20+ I only dealt with them once, I was working to a deadline and they arrived late. They then invoiced me twice and got shirty.

Re WRNS kit, lots of wrens preferred white ankle socks, Tesco do nice pure cotton ones for about £3 and they are a nice old fashioned ribbed pattern. White Georgette/ Rayon stockings are readily available on US Ebay as nurses there wore them up until the 70s.

More options for WAAFs...I still say Alex at Laste in Brighton is your best bet for stockings, but I've found tights too

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Falke-Softmerin ... 854&sr=8-1

No excuse for the nasty opaques or black /grey sheer 10 denier rubbish.
