Its a good cast no doubt (assuming it keeps that cast till the shooting starts. Names always get bandied about long before filming begins and quite often people drop out last minute.

This has the potential to be an interesting film. I think I will definately go and see it when it comes out but I will be pre-prepared with very low expectations. That way, worse case scenario, I wont be disapointed, only correct!
I think it'll be more of a novelty film. Get them dressed up. Get them to say the lines. Get them involved in a thinly veiled plot. Get it over with. The original dads army didn't lend itself to a feature length movie very well and I can't see how it would work any better with a new cast. And whilst I'm on it - whilst its a good cast - I cant see them having the charm and warmth of the originals. Gambon alone can't possibly begin to match the loveable Godfrey!

Anyway - will see in due course wether its got any potential. I may even go in my ARP Uniform and shout boooo at the screen every time Mainwaring is on.

As pointed out (and stolen by me!*) on another forum I frequent;

Quote:
The film will be directed by Oliver Parker, who made Johnny English Reborn, St Trinian's and Othello starring Sir Kenneth Branagh.

The script will be written by Hamish McColl, who wrote Johnny English Reborn and Mr Bean's Holiday.

We're dooooooomed!!!

*Cheers Steve!

Be very careful about loaning original items...also, please keep an eye out for :
*Still missing* Because some folks are devoid of an ounce of honesty or integrity.
Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]

Aggggghhhhh!

They're using bloody binocular cases instead of BAR pouches again!
Decent repros' are cheap enough now at SoF.

I know they said they wanted to be faithful to the original series, but surly not including the poor wardrobe short-cuts they made, too??

*facepalm*

Saw a bit being filmed near me.... Oh dear...

The set dressing for Brid high street is going to be 'interesting' as they are using all repro 50s dresses for the shop windows.

I guess all we must focus on is that they are copying something which was always a bad copy in the first place.

Its not going to get better and to be honest, it probably never intended to.

It has never bothered me that the original was a 'bad copy' of the war, in the same way Kellys Heroes never bothered me. The background being secondary to the story. However what bothers me about this one is that it is trying to be a copy of the series (The use of bino cases are obviously a nod to the original) and a very bad copy at that. This even extends down to seemingly raiding the 'parts bin' of British acting to look for people who look a bit like 'thingy', or who have played similar characters to 'whatsisname' in the past.

Another question is why they have filmed it in Yorkshire? Especially when Warmington-on-Sea is supposed to be in ** KENT** and the original was actually filmed in Thetford, Norfolk? Answers on a postcard anyone?
