one pic i saw for it did make me laugh, a mustang flaming a me 262 out of the sky, mustangs were good, but the 262 pilot would have to be realy shabby to have that happen (or just realy unlucky), 262's decimated in the few battles they fought.

Papagei Stafel was formed to protect Me262's when coming in to land or on take off...

In the chaos of battle, when the ground beneath your feet is a slurry of blood, puke, p**s and the entrails of friends and enemies alike, it's easy to turn to the gods for salvation. But it's soldiers who do the fighting, and soldiers who do the dying, and the gods never get their feet wet.

Comrades,
This film like Pearl Harbour does not need to be seen to be disliked and sworn at for crimes against what happened historically, "Practical lessons of power to weight ratios/cross sectional areas, wing dynamics, it was also very cold and windy" and most importantly the Dress Regulations of the USAAF .

The trailer covers all these hateful points, so you can avoid wasting an hour or two of your life .

It gives me hope, we are more worried about the BD of that chap though, we are a good bunch at heart really  .

:D

There is a brilliant documentary on the Red Tail. It has been on the History/Yesterday channels a while ago so should be out there somewhere.

No offence but whoever told you that is way wrong. The Me262 was a dog. Yes, it had a fantastic top speed but that was it. It's rate of roll and rate of turn were terrible.

Not seen the film (yet) but I agree with your sentiment. And I suppose that goes for less-than-100%-accurate re-enactors, too, doesn't it? If Joe Public is stirred into doing a bit of research or whatever as a result of a (possibly bad) uniform he's seen at a WW2 event, that can only be good, can't it?

Although this is probabaly, as usual, too ''politically correct''....

It was.....mediocre. Too much of 'we are winning the war for you'. As I expected it was too politically correct.

Just a quick shout,

The red tails only naval "kill" was a German destroyer put out of action. However in the video clip that ship looks really like H.M.S Hood or at least a made up cruiser of some kind it deffenatly not a German destroyer.

By a P47, not a P51...

It is one of my sons fav films, indeed after watching the film he created his own Airfix red tail squadron.

I do not know much about US aviation history, so probably I am wrong, but I thought the ME 262's decimated the USAAF in aerial combat, thankfully this was late in the war and there were not enough 262's to make a major impact

I know of one 262 which was shot down by a P38.

The Jets, if lined up properly at the correct range would make mince meat of any aircraft with it's 20mm cannons.

The pilots however were originally trained on prop aircraft, many just didn't have quicky enough reactions.
