Has anyone seen this? Its a new 2012 dvd I believe, it shows black american fighter pilots in ww2 escorting Flying Fortress's. I thought it was not too bad. worth a watch.

Sadly its dreadful,

The tech adviser's were sacked from the set during the making of the film and the rest as they is........Hollywood !!!

Its almost as bad as the Putnam version of Memphis Belle but with CGI, save your pennies and get hold of a copy of the original Belle or Combat America.

Cheers Dave

I agree its no Memphis Belle, and is quite hollywood, but it was a case of watching this or 'the voice' on bbc 1. It may be hollywood and a bit plastic but it was a darn sight better than prime time telly.

its over cgi'd by the people who over cgi'd the star wars films, which is a shame

i thought the film 'tuskagee airmen' told the story a lot better and without all the cgi clutter

Yep, agree with you Shiny,

At least they had a stab at the story in that film. Its such a shame as this could and should have been very good and they got most of it wrong, in this day and age with the amount of info out there then is there really any excuse ....... but as I said, its Hollywood.

I was with some friends from the US over the weekend including USAAF veterans and they said that surviving Tuskeegee veterans aren't happy with it at all, in fact some are disgusted by what the film company did, I guess it won't be the last of its type. I rolled my eyes when I saw 1st Air Div marked B17's in the film !!!!! Gotta get off this soap box

Cheers Dave

Go careful Jimmy.....there are quite a few MTO USAAF pilots in original pictures wearing british BD jackets..not technically wrong mate...Tuskeegee airman maybe not but definatley evidence of 12th AF and MTO pilots wearing BD .

Regards

Anorak

Ok, I stand corrected. I knew there were yanks that flew spitfires, but did not know they would wear our kit! Ha

I've yet to see it, but I was glad to see that after years of touting the story to hollywood, and being told 'no' due to it not having decent roles for white actors, the producer stumped up his own cash.

Tuskegee airman was pretty good I thought. If it inspires anyone to read more about these guys, it has to be a good thing.

Be very careful about loaning original items...also, please keep an eye out for :
*Still missing* Because some folks are devoid of an ounce of honesty or integrity.
Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]

Obama had a special screening of this film at the Whitehouse because it promote black servicemen in WW2.
I've heard about the making of this film a few years ago because it uses a Canon 5D2 for some of the cockpit shots and sort the service of a well known British cameraman. The guy who made the crusher caps for the film contacted me awhile back with plans for a possible business venture when he first started making them. I also done business with the guy who made the A2 jacket again when he first started out.

Reminds me of "Pearl Harbor". A whole lot of propaganda and no real historical accuracy. For example, you only have to look in any history book on the period to know that the German fighters as depicted in this film are wearing paint schemes that are four years out of date! (While the film is set in 1944, the 109s have Battle of Britain camo.)
Might only see it for the effects, though.

one pic i saw for it did make me laugh, a mustang flaming a me 262 out of the sky, mustangs were good, but the 262 pilot would have to be realy shabby to have that happen (or just realy unlucky), 262's decimated in the few battles they fought.

ME262s were reduced by 1/10th through strangling?

Sounds about right.
