I've recently got a couple of German water bottles with some small holes in the felt covers. What's the best way to repair them? Theres about 2 per cover, about 4mm or so so its not to the point where they'd need complete replacement.

Also what's the best way to preserve the covers so they don't degrade or shrink more?

Temperature control, (keep away from extremes of hot and cold) store in acid free tissue and use supplies from a company like University products...their perma dur boxes are good.
Re 'restoration' well..if you're looking to preserve it would be best to leave them alone..you could find a seam with a little spare and fill using some fine tulle on the reverse but if you're not using it and are actually trying to conserve it, then just clean it and store it. Check frequently for frass (insect s***e).

Be very careful about loaning original items...also, please keep an eye out for :
*Still missing* Because some folks are devoid of an ounce of honesty or integrity.
Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]
