Has it got a leather/leatherette band around it, Katie dearest ? I so, stretching it will be a reet bugga. Only thing I can think of is to put it on yer 'ed, and then 'ave a reet 'ot bath wi it on. That might shift it a bit.

Don't wet it though, coz it'll shrink.

Cheers,

Bryn

Hi Both
If you have kids katie try putting it on one of there balls that is slightly bigger around the middle than the hat and leave it there.......................... the constant pressure from the air in the ball trying to push out to full size is a hell of a lot more comfortable than leaving it on your head for the same amount of time.

Anyway, I've steamed it a bit more and my boyfriend sat wearing whilst watching TV last night.....I worried when he asked for my recipe for Swiss Roll and offered to do the darning! (However, typical bloke he wore it like the Green Berets...maybe I could form an Elite WVS unit? Exploding rock cakes?.......hmmmmmm

Katie - which way does it need stretching ? Is it the crown that's too small or the headband ?

If the crown - a gentle steaming and pulling will get about 1 and a half inches on a crown.

If it's the headband and it's leather, you need to soak it in hide food (Connelly's is probably the best for this) and, after about 24 hours, with some gentle easing you should be able to get a quarter of an inch out of it. - if you need any more out of it than that, unpicking the hatband around the back, gently sretching the wool as per the crown and re-stitching is the only way to go.

Hope this helps

Paul
