Tom, the pistol belt passes through the back of the carbine pouches. On the later pouches there are two straps sewn on.

The canteen and first aid pouch attach with the wire hooks at the top of them. They pass through the bottom row of eyelets in the belt, from the back. Canteen is most commonly seen on the rear of the right hip, first aid pouch on the front right of the belt.

Hope this helps,

Bryn

Right then...

Your carbine pouches should 'open' at the back. You know when you put a belt on your trousers, the carbine pouches should fit onto your pistol belt in the same way.

Your water bottle goes on the back right (or back left, it doesnt really matter) and first aid pouch on the front right. They attach to your belt by the clips you see, on the bottom set of holes. Put them through the back of the belt.

Any problems tom just PM me on MSN.

Hi Tom,
Waterbottle should really go on the right side. Before the introduction of the folding shovel it was worn on the left. This was changed because if you put the waterbottle on the left and the folding spade on the right it proved difficult to kneel down in the firing position without the end of the shovel digging into the ground. The 42 dated soldiers handbook shows it worn on the left but in the photo the guy is wearing a T-handle shovel on his doughboy-pack. Most but not all wartime photo's after 44 show it worn on the right.

Dale..................
