Hello everyone,

Just a quick intro now my account has been authorised. I'm Niki, AKA Mrs LeedsAndy, and like my hubby I am not a stranger to reenacting, having done Medieval a few years ago, but I am new to WWII reenactment.

Hubby and I have got a few events to go to as MOPs in the next few weeks, so we'll hopefully be able to pick up a few bits and pieces, as well as hints and tips while we are there. Looking forward to them!

I'm reasonable handy with a sewing machine, and have some fabric and patterns so once I've made that I'll post pics - its a lovely plain red cotton fabric, and I've got covered buttons to go with it. Fingers crossed it works out ok.

TTFN
Niki

Welcome, this forum isn't that helpful to civilian living historians. If you're on FB can recommend a number of helpful groups on there who will be glad to help you avoid the many pitfalls of the era and the current vintage/pin up awfulness! :D

Be very careful about loaning original items...also, please keep an eye out for :
*Still missing* Because some folks are devoid of an ounce of honesty or integrity.
Women's Navy Great Coat
Green floor length 1930s evening dress with sleeves set on net.
Blue and white rayon dress with peplum
Black velvet halter necked dress with silver shot thread skirt (may still have Harrods label in it) I have photos of all of these items and I know where they are in Scunthorpe, but would appreciate a nod if they come up for sale. [/color]

Ooh yes please Kate, FB groups would be good, I don't want to get it wrong on my first attempt... but even if my dress isn't 'right' for the era it'll still be a pretty frock for me to wear whenever :)

Hi
Welcome. Plenty of roles available! 10% of the population were in the services; of those only 10% saw action. I am in my 60s - mostly do Home Guard, but also at a push get away with being an RAF Warrant Officer, and do St John Ambulance officer, also Farmer teaching Land Army girls to groom and harness my horse. There is also Observer Corps, Civil Defence, WVS, Red Cross, Police, all sorts of civilian roles... etc etc etc.. As medieval reenactors you will be well aware of how to go about a role. Opposite side of the country but this weekend I am at a multi-period event: http://www.kentwell.co.uk/http%3A//tick ... /node/5145

Here are a few...

https://www.facebook.com/groups/136025633272249/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/20s30s40smarketplace/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/261872400594865/

There are some big FB groups that will try and sell the whole 'polka dot frock and princess Di hat' as fact, *avoid* although the top two are selling groups they're also great for sourcing patterns, fabric, you can post a pic and get an honest answer.

:)

Welcome to the board! I'd follow Miss Spitfire's advice about the Facebook pages, this forum isn't so geared towards civilian reenactors but we like to help where we can.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

I've had a look for those FB groups Kate, I've requested to join the top one, and will keep an eagle eye on the middle one. I must have put the number in wrong cos I couldn't find the bottom one, will try again later.

Cheers
Nik
