Osttruppen armed with Soviet weapons.... da!

Loads of photos, loads of (German) TOE's.... and definitely Osties at Utah on D-Day

Didn't you once find a meticulous list of Soviet small arms held by an OstBattalion on the Atlantik Wall with the, also meticulous, note that they had no ammunition.

Yes... that was quite surprising really. The level of detail in the German stock level returns is staggering... staggering to the extent of the lack of ammunition in Soviet calibres, but all the German calibres were listed.

Maybe you could imagine that some weapons were rechambered... but I've never seen MN's or SVT rechambered for 7.92 nor Maxims...

You can find some interesting documents if you dig around - the Germans did/do that really well.

Quite right too, who'd want a load of armed Soviets at their backs?

Well, yes, possibly - the reason the Osties were moved to the West in 1943 was because the high command believe that Osttruppen might have had a role to play in the massive Soviet counter-offensive at Stalingrad.

Whether this is actually true I've never seen any evidence.

In battle Red Army units rarely took any "Vlasovite scum" prisoner and the Osties knew it.

The only Osttruppen major rebellion in the West was at Texcel Island in 1944, where the Georgian battallion there murdered all of their commanders and ran havoc over the island for several days before being put down.
