Could any of you fine gentlmen help me Please?
Did fallschirmjagers ever get issued standard steel helmets rather than paratroop helmets?
I know fallschirmjaegers mainly fought as ground troops later in the war and I know that luftwaffe field divisions used standard helmets.
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

yes,

Fallschirmjäger did use the standard M42 helmets later on during the war. But you will see them being used earlier at such places like italy.

I've seen many a late war picture of fallschirmjager with M42 on their noggin, maybe even M40, you need to search google for the proof! I've also heard a few veteran stories of prefering a M40 or M42 as it felt a better helmet... The skirt of the helmet makes a difference when the allies are trying to kill you!

Regards,

Gary.
